WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF SELFISHNESS IN THE MOVIE ‘BRAVE’?

THE ESSAY

‘Brave’ movie is about a girl name Merida who comes from royal family and from a clan called Dunbroch. Merida disagreed with her mother’s decision to ask her to marry so she ran away into the wood. She found a witch and asked the witch to make a spell to change her mother. The spell  changed her mother into a bear.  Merida felt sad and she learnt her lesson. The effects of selfishness in the movie ‘Brave’ are conflict and fight.

The first effect of selfishness in the movie ‘Brave’ is conflict between Merida and Elinor and between Merida and Fergus. In the movie, Merida and Elinor argue about marriage. Merida refused to marry one of the three princes but her mother forced her. Merida also does not listen to her mother as she wants her freedom in her life. She is not ready for the marriage and she swears that the marriage will not happen.. In addition to that, Merida and Fergus also argued when Fergus tried to kill his own wife but Merida stopped him. Fergus also shouted at Merida and accused her  of  talking nonsense. Fergus locked Merida in the room and he then searched for the bear to revenge Elinor‘s death. So, selfishness brings conflict in the family as Merida fight with Elinor and Fergus.

The second effect of selfishness in the movie ‘Brave” is the fight in the kingdom and between sibling. In the kingdom, three clans fight with each other to in the a competition to marry the princess, Merida and so that they can be the next king in the kingdom. Besides that, from the legend, the older prince among the four princes wanted to rule the kingdom by himself. His pride and selfishness transformed him into an evil bear and ruined his kingdom. So, the characteristic of selfishness may destroy the kingdom and relationship between siblings.

The movie ‘Brave’ has shown that selfishness brings about conflict and fight in the clans. The quarrel between Merida and her mother Elinor, becomes worse when Merida breaks the tradition of the clan. In addition to that, the argument does not lead to positive effect.  Next, the disagreement causes Merida and Elinor to quarrel about their different opinion all the time. They need to learn to communicate so that they can understand each other. In summary, selfishness does not bring advantages to people. So, the movie 'Brave' is not only an enjoyable movie to watch but also brings some lessons to the viewers.

Some ideas for Oral Commentary of a Movie Assignment SAMPLE OF STUDENT ESSAY -4-(Movie:In Time-) -The Mind Map and Essay

THE ESSAY

IS RAYMOND REALLY THE VILLAIN N IN ‘’IN TIME’’?

Villains in movies are sometimes portrayed as bad and violent. In movies, sometimes, good characters pretend to be bad or may end up as bad characters and sometime villains may end up as good. Raymond is portrayed as a villain in "In Time", however, a close analysis of his characters reveals both the evil and good side of Raymond. Raymond  has two bad characteristic such as  cruel and selfish but he also has a good character such as he is responsible. The characters that Raymond portrays shows even the bad person has some negative attitude but that person can also have the positive attitudes in their lives.
Raymond is a cruel person, and this is seen in the way he handles his  job and how he behaves a s a thief. Raymond is a cruel person because he kills Henry Hamilton’s when Henry Hamilton was sleeping. Besides that, Raymond is also a thief of time. He want to live longer and become a rich man from stealing the other person’s time. So, In Time movie, Raymond shows that he is a cruel person in different ways like he is a killer and in the same time, he is also a thief.
Raymond is a selfish person when it comes to  time and power. Raymond is selfish because he steals Sylvia’s time when her car is involved in an accident and he does not want to share the time with his friends. Raymond is also selfish through the use of his  power. He used the power for his own uses for example he uses the title as a “ time keeper “ to add on to his power. So, Raymond is selfish actor in ‘In Time’ movie and he shows the attitude in different ways.
On the other hand, Raymond has the good attitude that is he responsible towards his job and time. Raymond is responsible with his job because he is so addicted in his work. He has to be a good  ‘time keeper’ and he is also alert when  anyone makes mistakes like stealing other people's time.He will catch the thief . In addition to that, Raymond is also responsible in his time. He defines that time is very important because he manages his time properly to satisfy he needs like adding the extra time to live longer. Even though Raymond is seen as the villain character, he has the some good qualities that we can model from.

In a nut shell , this movie shows both sides of Raymond.. From this movie, i learn that there are many sides of a person. Sometimes, some bad characters we meet have reasons why they become so. Some good characters were once bad. Not everyone is as bad as we think they are, and not all good people were good last time too.
